Do you have a favorite Bible app?

A few weeks back I preached on the importance of becoming Biblically literate and recommended some tools to help read and understand the Bible. We talked about the use of study Bibles, concordances, Bible dictionaries, and reading the Bible on your smartphone.

I had just downloaded the Bible.is app which relates to a wonderful organization “Faith Comes by Hearing.” Their download includes an audio version. There are a number of Bible versions to choose from, including a number of languages. It also has Bible reading and listening plans such as reading the Bible in a year  or listening to the New Testament in 40 days. I think you would be blessed by this program.

There is also My Sword which has some interesting applications in addition to Bible reading.  There is a Strong’s Lexicon and you will also find different translations, commentaries, Bible dictionaries, books, and maps with a place to write some notes. This is downloaded to your phone. I find that these two apps give a lot of opportunity to read and study the Bible, even when I am away from my computer of do not have my big study Bible and other tools along.

You can read about these two apps at the following websites:

I was recently asked about recommendations I have about Bibles to download to the phone. I like both of these, but I would be interested in hearing from others about other recommendations to help others in finding a good app to aid people in studying the Bible through today’s technology.

About rdthomas53
I currently pastor St. Paul UMC in Midland, Texas. I previously pastored and was a chaplain in the Assemblies of God. I have very conservative views of theology believing God has revealed Himself in the Bible. I believe that the Scriptures are absolutely reliable and that Jesus Christ is the way of salvation. I believe that once we have been saved by the blood of Jesus Christ, that we are to grow in Him, sometimes referred to as sanctification. One day soon we who are in Christ will be glorified whenever we see Jesus we shall be like Him.

I use the YouVersion app and love it. It keeps me connected with reading plans and offers many versions to read from. I have it on my smart phone, ipod Touch and laptop. Thanks for the post!
